Albaret Mathieu Watch Table Atlas Sterling Silver Seal French Empire 1810











 

    Extremely rare Atlas with celestial sphere in sterling silver watch desk seal with a movement of Albaret and Mathieu made in France during the first Empire period 1810's. The movement with verge and fusee in ormolu with blued screws and beautifull stoned and engraved escapement is numbered and signed by Albaret and Mathieu as the enameled dial with Bréguet Roskopf handles. It stands in celestial sphere carried on the shoulders by Atlas in sterling silver. On the pedestal of Atlas the seal shows Sisyphos with the latina device:"Tristiter fortiter" the courage in the suffering. The seal is hallmarked with the swan french guarantee for the precious metal. The movement works but stops, it needs to be cleanned. The Atlas sculpture with the celestial dial is in good condition only a few shocks on the celestial sphere. 4 7/8" high 8.61 oz (224 grammes). Albaret works in Paris rue Mazarine in 1789 before his partnership in Switzerland with Mathieu.

For our French-speaking friends: Mouvement à verge et fusée, vers 1810, époque Ier Empire, diamètre 28 mm, doré au feu (mercure), signé Albaret & Mathieu et numéroté, vis bleuies, beau pont d'échappement empierré et ciselé, cadran émail avec accident et signé des mêmes, aiguilles Bréguet Roskopf. Le mouvement fonctionne mais s'arrête prévoir la révision, pas de clé.
Il est dans un boîtier en forme de sphère céleste sur l'épaule d'Atlas, l'ensemble en argent massif fait cachet à cire, sur le sceau Sisyphe et la devise "Tristiter fortiter" : coraggio nel dolore (o sofferenza) = Le courage dans la douleur (ou la souffrance). Poinçon de recense des métaux précieux au cygne. Bel état, chocs sur la sphère. Hauteur 12 cm. Poids total 244 grammes.
Albaret a travaillé seul à Paris rue Mazarine en 1789 avant son association en Suisse avec Mathieu. ALBARET & MATHIEU horlogers à Genève, mécaniciens et marchands, début du XIXème siècle.
