Jewel Box August LUCE Steamership SS France CGT-French Line 1912

Rare aluminum jewel box with the Steamership SS France (CGT-French Line 1912) picture in medallion made by August Edouard Achille LUCE designer well know for the Lincoln Mourning Fan of the Civil War. During the end of the 19th century Aluminium was semi-precious metal rarest than silver. Perfect condition only the picture is litlle yellowed. 2 5/8" width 1 7/8" depth 1 1/2" high.

Boite à bijoux en aluminium, avec le portrait du paquebot Le France toutes vapeurs en 1912, par le designer August Edouard Achille LUCE, renommé pour ses éventails défensifs dont the Hand-Painted Lincoln Mourning Fan de la Civil War, grâce à l'invention d'Henri Sainte-Claire Deville. Très bel état. Largeur 6,6 cm, profondeur 4,7 cm, hauteur 3,6 cm.
Le France, paquebot transatlantique français de la Compagnie générale transatlantique mis en service en 1912 et qui assura la ligne Le Havre - New York jusqu'en 1932, surnommé le Versailles sur les mers, pour sa décoration et l'espace qu'il proposait.
Fin XIXème siècle, l'aluminium était un métal semi-précieux, plus rare que l'argent. La production totale aux États-Unis en 1884 était de 125 livres.
